United Way Campaign

The Campaign for the United Way happens every year to help the communities of the province of Alberta to work together to end poverty. United Way is a large non for profit organization and needed to be represented to show the broad range of solutions, impacts and results that they offer.

Through working for Alberta Blue Cross, I was assigned the project of designing materials and overall brand experience for the 2016 Campaign within the company. Each year they hope to express a new look as many employees participate in the campaign and enjoy the events that the campaign offers. A challenge that was brought to my attention was that the brand needed to be versatile and to be able to be added to many materials such as large posters, t-shirts and banners. With that in mind I tried to keep the logo for the campaign simple but direct to get the message across to employees of Alberta Blue Cross.

The logo also needed to be created as a vector graphic to be high resolution for printing on large materials. United Way uses photography for many of there pieces and I found that the vector graphic went cohesively with those pieces. Since the campaign was for the Alberta region I made sure to represent Alberta by using the provinces outline in a fun and impactful way. The words GREAT spread across the province inspired people to feel proud of Alberta and that they were part of a campaign that promoted greatness in working together to end poverty.

2016 marked an important milestone for the United Way Campaign. Alberta Blue Cross raised more than $169,000 that year and that total pushed Alberta Blue Cross’s total donation to the United Way over their 25-year relationship past the $2 million mark.

Events like the United Way kickoff, popcorn events and email reminders all included the design for the campaign to insure that the right message was being delivered through all the platforms. The brand was well received and many employees wanted to be apart of something that made them feel as part of the community.
